Gollanczfest 2019 - Morning-Only Writer's Ticket

Saturday 19th October 2019 10:30am - 1pm The Phoenix Artist’s Club, The Phoenix Artist’s Club,, 1 Phoenix Street, London, WC2H 8BU Literary Event, Signing, Chargeable Event

We’re delighted to team up with Gollancz Publishing for Gollanczfest 2019—the UK’s premiere sci-fi, fantasy and horror book festival.

Get yourself along to our Charing Cross Rd flagship and the Phoenix Artist's Club just across the street for a day of panels, workshops and signings. Hear your favourite authors debate everything, from travelling at faster-than-light speed to who wrote the best magic system; receive expert advice on your writing project from leading voices in the business, and meet all the writers themselves as they sign your favourite books.

As in previous years, Gollanczfest will be running two separate strands. The Reader’s ticket will grant you access to the panels and speaker events in the auditorium at Foyles, whilst the Writer’s Ticket opens the doors to the Phoenix Artist's Club to those wanting to improve their craft and receive an insight into the publishing process.

Take a look at the full schedule for the Morning-Only Writer’s event at the Phoenix Artist's Club below:

MORNING-ONLY GOLLANCZFEST WRITER’S TICKET – £30

10:30am – 1pm: This session will consist of two panels presented by a mix of authors and publishing industry professionals, plus a session of hour-long ‘speed-advice’ where attendees will get the opportunity to sit down with various of our authors in small groups and discuss their writing and the publishing process.

Authors appearing include: Garth Nix, Joe Abercrombie, Vic James, Laura Lam, Elizabeth May, Tom Toner, Gavin G. Smith, Adam Roberts, Justina Robson, Tricia Sullivan, Mike Shackle, Tom Lloyd, Ed McDonald, Catriona Ward, Edward Cox and Mark Stay.

This ticket grants you access to morning events taking place at The Phoenix including…

10:30am – 11:00am: In Conversation with Garth Nix and Vic James: Discussing turning an idea into a book. This panel will be moderated by Daphne Tonge, founder of the Illumicrate book subscription box.

11:00am – 11:30am: The Editors Panel: Hear from Gollancz’s editorial team as they talk through what they look for when acquiring a good book and what to expect when you sign with a publisher. This panel will feature: Anne Clarke, Gollancz Publisher; Gillian Redfearn, Gollancz Deputy Publisher; Marcus Gipps, Editorial Director of Gollancz & SF Gateway; Rachel Winterbottom, Gollancz Commissioning Editor; & Brendan Durkin, Gollancz Assistant Editor.

Participants will then have the chance to ask whatever questions they’d like about the writing process, trouble they’re having with their novels, or how to get published. Every 15 minutes the experts at the tables will rotate giving groups a new person to speak to and a different perspective. Everyone will have four sessions in total. This session will be run by Marcus Gipps, Editorial Director of Gollancz & SF Gateway. Authors participating in these Speed-Advice Sessions include, Garth Nix, Joe Abercrombie, Vic James, Laura Lam, Elizabeth May, Tom Toner, Gavin G.
