War To Windrush: Black Women in Britain 1939-1948

Tuesday 16th October 2018 7pm - 8pm 107 Charing Cross Road Signing, Chargeable Event

To commemorate the 70th anniversary of both the arrival of the Empire Windrush and the birth of the National Health Service, join cinema and social historian Stephen Bourne as he shines a light on the lives and roles of black women in Britain over the last seven decades.

Highlighting those figures who played a distinct role in this pivotal time in British history, Bourne will discuss how black women contributed significantly to the rebuilding of post-war Britain—paying homage not just to those better-known figures such as Lilian Bader, Nadia Cattouse and Norma Bestand, but the unknown and 'ordinary' women that often go unsung.

Stephen will be in conversation with Executive Leadership coach, trainer and creative-writing tutor Jackee HolderThe talk will be followed by an audience Q&A.
