Crudo: Olivia Laing in conversation
Monday 2nd July 2018 7:30pm - 9pm
Bristol Central Library, College Green, Bristol, BS1 5TL
Literary Event, Signing, Chargeable Event
We're excited to be working in partnership with Bristol Central Library to host an evening in conversation with the brilliant Olivia Laing.
Olivia Laing is rightfully celebrated for her non-fiction, writing books that are eclectic in theme and bold in voice - she’s a firm favourite at the bookshop. Olivia's new book, Crudo, sees the author bring her formidable narrative talents to the arena of fiction, delivering a novel that is sharp, witty and engaging. It’s difficult to express just how timely this novel is; in Crudo, Olivia has pulled off the remarkable feat of capturing the strange flux of our time, the time of Trump, contested truths and looming conflagration. Against this fluctuating backdrop lives Kathy, who may or may not be Kathy Acker, a woman in her mid 40s attempting to come to terms with love and commitment as the world continues to shift and twist around her. By juxtaposing the personal and the global, the movements of everyday life with the rolling catastrophes of the international stage, Olivia has produced a novel that speaks directly of our troubled present and the lives we lead inside of it.
This event will be held in the beautiful, book-lined Reading Room of Bristol Central Library, the perfect setting for an evening of literary delectation. The ticket price is redeemable against the price of the book and includes a complimentary glass of wine.
