This event is part of the WOW - Women of the World Festival at the Southbank Centre.


London’s award-winning LGBTQ+ literary salon Polari returns to WOW. Now in its eleventh year, Polari has been showcasing the best in established and emerging LGBTQ+ literary talent since 2007.

This year’s event is headlined by award-winning poet and short story writer Jen Campbell, hosted by author Paul Burston, and features a line-up exploring gender, sexuality and what it means to be a woman today.

Jen Campbell is an award-winning poet and short story writer. Her debut short story collection, The Beginning of the World in the Middle of the Night, is published by Two Roads.


The line-up also features:

  • Christine Burns MBE, celebrated trans activist, author and editor of the new book Trans Britain.
  • Sophia Blackwell, acclaimed performance poet and author of a novel and two poetry collections.
  • Angela Clerkin, actress, writer and theatre-maker whose plays include The Secret Keeper.
  • V.A. Fearon, Black British queer crime writer.
