Reading Arundhati Roy: A Discussing of The God of Small Things
Tickets for this Event
2017 marks the 20 year anniversary of the publication of Arundhati Roy’s Man Book Prize-winning and iconic debut, The God of Small Things. To celebrate this milestone, we're hosting a series of book groups without* Arundhati Roy.
Join us at your local Foyles Bookshop where Foyles staff and customers alike will be coming together to discuss Roy’s enduring classic, The God of Small Things, 20 years on. This remarkable novel is the story of Rahel and Estha, twins growing up among the banana vats and peppercorns of their blind grandmother’s factory, and amid scenes of political turbulence in Kerala. Armed only with the innocence of youth, they fashion a childhood in the shade of the wreck that is their family: their lonely, lovely mother, their beloved Uncle Chacko and their sworn enemy, Baby Kochamma.
In June we’ll see the publication of Roy’s first fictional novel since 1997, The Ministry of Utmost Happiness. A braided narrative of astonishing force and originality, it is at once a love story and a provocation – a novel as inventive as it is emotionally engaging. Come join us to revisit Arundhati Roy’s masterful storytelling ahead of the release of her latest book.
Be sure to pick up your copy of The God of Small Things ahead of your local event, we’ll be discussing the novel in depth so do come along having read the book to avoid spoilers.
*These book groups will be run by our lovely booksellers and not by Arundhati Roy herself.
